Project Overview

Baker performed all the cast-in-place concrete for Pipeline Plunge, a water coaster at SeaWorld Orlando that combines thrilling drops with water elements. The scope of work included cast-in-place concrete for the ride’s foundations, a photo and locker room, the ride station, an electrical building, and a maintenance area.

Baker performed the formwork, reinforcement, placement, and finishes for footings, grade beams, tie beams, tie columns, walls, columns, platforms, structural floor and roof systems, slab on grade, and stairs. Excavation for cast-in-place footings and backfill was complex due to excessive dewatering. The site frequently flooded and required daily dewatering and trench boxes.

The project team also managed pile chipping and utility lines on a constrained site. More than 520 concrete piles had to be chipped 1 to 3 feet, which required skilled labor, regular equipment maintenance, and ongoing dust and debris management. The team held daily meetings to analyze site challenges and prevent disruptions to park operations.

Baker overcame the unique site challenges, including terrain, drainage, and accessibility, to complete the project accurately and on time. The effort earned a 2024 Excellence in Construction Eagle Award from ABC Central Florida.
