Baker Construction Expands Footprint in Key Markets

Nation’s Leading Concrete Construction Firm to Purchase Equipment and Assets from Cleveland Cement Contractors

Houston (March 11, 2025)—As part of an ongoing effort to expand the company’s presence across the U.S, Baker Construction announced today it will be purchasing the equipment assets from Cleveland Cement Contractors, a Cleveland, Ohio-based full-service concrete contractor. In addition to its Cleveland headquarters, the company has an office in Richmond, Virginia.

The agreement, which closed on March 5, also allows Baker to absorb members of Cleveland Cement’s leadership team and craft workforce. Cleveland Cement will complete and be fully responsible for all current projects under its own entity. However, the company will no longer pursue or bid on new work.

This move strengthens Baker Construction’s already formidable position in northern Ohio and in Virginia, while complementing the company’s strong presence in the national market for large-scale facilities, including big box stores, warehouses, and distribution centers.

“We believe this venture will not only help Baker continue to grow, but it will also give Cleveland Cement customers the service they expect from an industry leader,” said Baker CEO Karl H. Watson, Jr. “This move represents one of the many opportunities Baker is assessing to expand our capabilities, gain additional equipment, and build our team all to deliver greater value and growth opportunities for our dedicated co-workers. We are glad to welcome members of the Cleveland Cement team to the Baker Construction family.”

Founded by Ron Simonetti in 1944, Cleveland Cement has partnered with general contractors, architects, and property owners to deliver superior quality on commercial projects along the Eastern Seaboard and throughout the Midwest. The company has produced concrete structures for such organizations as the University Hospitals of Cleveland, the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Horseshoe Casino Cleveland, the College of William & Mary, General Motors, and the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Mike Simonetti, Cleveland Cement president and the son of founder Ron Simonetti, noted that Cleveland Cement and Baker share many of the same values, which will benefit Cleveland Cement’s client base.

“Baker was founded on similar principles that CCC was founded upon by my father, Ron Simonetti, including excellence, hard work, service, and integrity,” Simonetti said. “Those same principles will guide everything CCC and Baker do as we move forward together. Our combined team will continue to prioritize relationships, quality work, and safety.”

Baker Construction’s Cleveland office will relocate to Cleveland Cement Contractors’ facility on Van Epps Road. Baker’s central Virginia operations will be based out of the Cleveland Cement office and yard location in Colonial Heights.
