Project Overview

American Electric Power (AEP) installed a Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) system at its Cardinal Power Plant in Southeastern Ohio to reduce sulfur dioxide emissions from coal power generation.

Baker was contracted for all structural concrete elements, including pedestals, piers, foundations, walls, paving, and elevated decks. Baker also oversaw the mechanical and electrical scopes of work.

The project included challenging riverbank work, with some pits located 15 feet below the river’s elevation. Baker implemented a comprehensive quality control program, conducting extensive pre- and post-pour inspections with the client, which helped prevent costly rework. Under Baker’s supervision, the project achieved 123,000 man-hours worked without a recordable injury.
