Project Overview
HGI Denver Union Station is a 12-story destination hotel with gorgeous views of the Mile-High City. Baker served as the concrete contractor for the project. Located in the heart of Denver, the HGI job site required Baker to coordinate logistics around a busy city. Crews also had to work around The Hose Company No. 1 building — one of Denver’s oldest standing firehouses. Baker helped reinforce the deteriorated structure, which was repurposed into a restaurant and incorporated into the HGI facility.
With more than 17,000 cubic yards placed on the job, the crowning achievement was the mass pour for the slab. Over the course of three months, seven companies planned how to best deliver, test, and place 4,650 cubic yards in a single pour. The task was completed on one of Denver’s hottest summer days, when temperatures reached the upper 90s, without a single lost load or accident. The effort made history as the largest continuous concrete placement in the City and County of Denver. It also contributed to Baker being named a recipient of a 2021 Excellence in Concrete Award by the Rocky Mountain Chapter of the American Concrete Institute.
