Project Overview
Located 36 miles upstream from Cincinnati, Ohio, the Meldahl Hydroelectric Plant is the largest hydroelectric power plant on the Ohio River. The site, which contains an existing lock and dam facility, was expanded to include power generation capabilities. The $504 million project is expected to generate over 558,000 MWh of gross annual energy output.
Baker completed the concrete scope for the project, forming a joint venture with Alberici Corporation to handle general construction. The project redirected water from the river through an intake channel into a concrete powerhouse and back into the river via a tailrace channel. Baker’s portion of the project focused on constructing the new cast-in-place powerhouse (260’ long x 210’ wide), which houses three horizontal bulb-type turbines with a total rated capacity of 105 MW.
