Project Overview
The Motiva Crude Expansion Project required the construction of a new refinery process train within an existing and active refinery. The expansion increased the refinery’s capacity to over 600,000 barrels per day, making it the largest refinery in the U.S. and one of the top 10 globally. The site was selected for its strategic location along the Gulf Coast, which offers easy access to waterborne crude oil and major product pipelines.
Baker’s contract included tank foundations, deep sump pump stations, clarifiers, and water purification structures. Due to the varied grades of the foundation, every structure was built on pile, which required careful collaboration across teams.
The client managed all aspects of material procurement except for formwork. Baker coordinated closely with the client to ensure the timely availability of materials.
