Project Overview

The Orlando Health Neuroscience Institute is a cutting-edge medical facility in downtown Orlando.
Baker’s scope of work included constructing isolated and continuous footings, stem walls, an elevator pit, anchor bolts, slab on grade, and three levels of slab on metal decks. Where necessary, we also excavated, compacted, and removed excess spoils.
The site was positioned between two buildings, with no room to store backfill spoils. Work was carefully sequenced, and excavation spoils were continuously moved around the site to minimize downtime. The project had an aggressive schedule, which the Baker team met by placing 900 CY of concrete for the foundations and stem walls in just four weeks. In total, the project involved approximately 1,400 CY of installed concrete and 24 tons of rebar.
To manage access and time constraints, Baker reinforced metal decks while the steel erector worked above. The project team followed the steel erectors up the building, placing four 14,000-square-foot decks. They then worked their way down, placing pan stairs for job site access before pouring the slab on grade.
The demanding schedule left no room for error. Baker expertly coordinated deliveries, co-worker schedules, work sequencing, and onsite spoil management to hit daily project milestones.
The project earned a 2024 Excellence in Construction Eagle Award from ABC Central Florida.
