Project Overview
Baker’s scope for the Tenaris plant in Bay City, Texas, included a heat treatment facility, a hot rolling mill, a casing line, and zones 9 and 10, totaling over 1 million square feet. Baker installed over 6,000 tons of reinforcing steel and 65,400 CY of concrete and executed earthwork, pile cutting, and welding work. There were nearly 4,000 design drawings for Baker’s scope of the project, which we carefully managed.
Baker constructed foundations, deep tunnels and pits, structural columns, walls, and a series of complex mezzanine decks. The mezzanine decks were designed with numerous pits, pads, curbs, embedments, block-outs, and elevation changes to accommodate specialized mechanical equipment. The decks were more than nine feet thick in some areas.
There were also nearly 15,000 cans for anchor bolts throughout the project, with exacting tolerances as small as a quarter inch.
