Project Overview
The Vogtle Electric Generating Plant is one of two nuclear power plants operated by Georgia Power. Located in Waynesboro, Georgia, the plant consists of two pressurized water reactor units that generate a combined capacity of 2,430 MW. The site includes several buildings, such as a concrete-reinforced containment structure that houses the reactor and cooling systems.
Stone & Webster contracted Baker to install ring foundations for the No. 3 and No. 4 cooling tower stacks on this Nuclear Quality Assurance Level One project. Each ring foundation required 11 placements’, with dimensions of 150 feet long’, 30 feet wide, and ’8 feet deep. Baker’s scope also included the interior basin slab, pile caps, and basin slabs. In total, Baker placed over 45,000 cubic yards of concrete for the project.
