Statement on the Merritt Island Jobsite Tragedy
Friday, June 6, 2025
We are deeply saddened by the tragic incident that occurred on June 4, 2025, at the Health First Merritt Island construction site in Merritt Island, Florida, where Baker Construction is providing structural concrete services.
At approximately 2:00 p.m. Eastern Time, a crane collapsed on site, resulting in the loss of two lives. These individuals were valued members of the team and part of the extended Baker family. We mourn their loss alongside their loved ones, friends, and fellow co-workers.
We are working closely with the Owner, the Construction Manager, and all involved parties, to understand the full scope of what occurred and ensure the continued safety of everyone involved. The site was immediately secured following the incident, and a formal investigation, led by OSHA, is underway.
Members of Baker’s corporate leadership team including the President of Eastern U.S. Commercial, the Corporate Vice President of Safety, and the Senior Executive Vice President of Construction Services, were on site within hours of the incident. The company remains focused on supporting the families and all those impacted by this tragedy.
Safety is the foundation of everything we do, and when an incident like this occurs, it profoundly affects us all.
While the cause of the incident has not yet been determined, we are fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation. Out of respect for the families and the integrity of the process, we will refrain from speculation and will share verified updates as appropriate.
Our deepest sympathies are with the families, friends, and teammates of the individuals we lost. We ask that you keep them in your thoughts during this incredibly difficult time.
